#Thegreatpoolpondconversion - 200809
Even though our ‘end’ didn’t wind up looking like we planned (yet) - ie “finished”, we are a pond.
Two spot breasted orioles came to see what’s happening.
There’s lots of other bird activity, though that may be due to filled bird feeders (ingrates).
In the early morning, dragon flies are dive bombing and drinking the water.
There is some insect life visible below the surface.
Geckos are having a field day, and there’s some frog evidence.
Most of the plants are doing ok so far.
We’ve definitely entered a new phase.
The heat is off. The urgency, the pressure to get to this point is gone.
Now it’s all about fine tuning and doing finish work.
We had another more or less leisurely breakfast (no pancakes).
And then we worked on the border some more and did a bunch of cleanup and prep work.
We moved 40 bags of blue slate pebbles to behind the barn so now we’ve got the entire lawn back.
The next little while will be finishing the border (for now) and painting the deck.
There will be more border work later.
At the same time we’ll start building the first grow bed - for the butterfly weed and milkweed.
And we’ll add more plants.
While we were talking about all this we considered taking a small left turn from one of our original goals.
We bounced it around and then had a huge a-ha moment and came up with a Next Big Thing.
Nope, not telling. Yet. (Apparently this kind of project never, ever ends.)
Stay tuned.
